    Run the foothills surrounded by wildflowers and finish off with breakfast at the Golden Stag Hall in Hornitos.

    The 41st Annual Indian Gulch-Hornitos run is coming up on April 2! There will be a 2 mile, 5 mile and 10 mile out and back course on the backroads near Hornitos. All races start at 8:30 am. With all the rain we have had, the road should be surrounded by wildflowers! All runners are treated to a pancake breakfast after the run provided by the Hornitos 4-H Club. Medals are offered for the best times in 8 different age/sex categories for each distance. Pre-registration is only $25 or $30 race day.The run is sponsored by the Merced Running Club and part of the proceeds benefit the cross country team at Buhach Colony High School.     Naturalist and author Michael Ross will lead a hike on the Long Ranch easement. This property holds a diverse range of Flora.
    Long Ranch Conservation Easement was the first conservation easement for SFC in Mariposa County. In collaboration with The Trust for Public Land (TPL) the protection of this incredible 2,941 acres, a portion of the Long family ranch in Mariposa, has vast pine and blue oak woodlands which make it one of the largest oak habitats under single ownership in Mariposa County.

  • Coulterville Heritage Rose Tour

    This year the Coulterville Heritage Rose Tour is on Saturday, April 22nd, from 10-12 a.m., starting at the History Center on the corner of Highways 49 and 132. Representatives of the Rose Rustlers will lead a free walking tour through the historic town of Coulterville. Tea will be served on return to the History Center, with roses available for purchase: one-gallon pots for $7 and 5 gallons for $15.

    The Rose Rustlers were out and about this past fall. October and November are the perfect time for cuttings and we gathered quite a few this year. We would love to hear from anyone in Coulterville who thinks they may have an old rose; we may be able to identify it for you and make more through cuttings or cloning your rose.

  • Master Gardeners Spring Plant Sale

    Mariposa Master Gardeners are gearing up for their annual spring plant sale. Seeds are being selected and started, stem propagation is yielding results, and plans for garden art are being made.
    The sale will have tomato choices by the busload, plus a range of other vegetables, fruits and herbs from rutabagas to kohlrabi. There will be a special emphasis on native plants. More flowering plants are expected this year.
    You’ll also be introduced to Hugelkultur, a German gardening method that helps conserve water and uses trunks and branches from dead trees.

    Join docents Allison Baggett and Ben Fluharty for a hike on the Long Ranch Conservation Easement. This property holds a diverse range of flora.
    Long Ranch Conservation Easement was the first conservation easement for SFC in Mariposa County. In collaboration with The Trust for Public Land (TPL) the protection of this incredible 2,941 acres, a portion of the Long family ranch in Mariposa, has vast pine and blue oak woodlands which make it one of the largest oak habitats under single ownership in Mariposa County
