    MCHS auditorium

    MCHS Academic Boosters Club’s seventh annual event showcasing arts education at Mariposa County High School is happening Friday, March 24, starting at 7 PM at Fiester Auditorium. The event is taking on some fresh new directions this year.

    ABC, in conjunction with MCHS, is reinvigorating and diversifying the event with a new name (“Spring Into Art”), and new branding and exhibits, while still presenting all the wonderful art programs available to MCHS students in what is sure to be a thoroughly entertaining evening. All are welcome at this family friendly event!

    New features include a student DJ before the show and during intermission; welding student work displayed out front; a sausage making demonstration by Agricultural Foods & Processing students; and Senior Project art demonstrations. This year’s event will have an improvisation theme.

    Performances will continue to include: Grizzly Band, Dance Club, Drama Club, Chorus, and special appearances by some of Mariposa County middle school musicians and drama students.

    Popular local musician Adam Burns will once again make a guest improv appearance.

    Student artwork will be on display and for sale in the lobby before the show and at intermission. Delicious treats made by Agricultural Foods & Processing students will also be available for sale.

    You may have seen Arts Night before, but not like this!

    Come support MCHS students, check out the wonderful programs available to them through the high school and the fantastic results of those programs, and enjoy an entertaining evening with family and friends at the same time.

    Soroptimist International of Mariposa will hold a Spring Fiesta Dinner & Dance on Saturday, March 25 at the Mariposa Fairgrounds, Manzanita Room.
    It will feature a taco bar dinner.

    Tickets are $25. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30.
    There will be dancing to the music of D.J. Mark Carpenter. There will also be a silent auction, raffle and a no-host bar featuring frozen margaritas.

    All proceeds raised by this event will go directly to local service projects, scholarships, youth groups and many other vital community services.
    Soroptimist International of Mariposa has also been a major contributor/sponsor for Mountain Crisis Services, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping domestic violence victims in Mariposa County.

    Monthly meeting scheduled for 4th Tuesday of each month. Format will alternate monthly between formal whole group meetings and smaller action group meetings.

    We will meet at the Bodie room at the Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort.

    The Bug is offering this space to us at no cost! We are asking that everyone parks at the top lot to respect their customer parking. We recognize that walking up and down the hill is not possible for everyone, so we will be looking to each of you to help shuttle folks down if there is a need. Our meeting will include formal meeting time and some time to socialize and build community. We look forward to seeing you all and hearing what some of the action groups have been up to!

    Run the foothills surrounded by wildflowers and finish off with breakfast at the Golden Stag Hall in Hornitos.

    The 41st Annual Indian Gulch-Hornitos run is coming up on April 2! There will be a 2 mile, 5 mile and 10 mile out and back course on the backroads near Hornitos. All races start at 8:30 am. With all the rain we have had, the road should be surrounded by wildflowers! All runners are treated to a pancake breakfast after the run provided by the Hornitos 4-H Club. Medals are offered for the best times in 8 different age/sex categories for each distance. Pre-registration is only $25 or $30 race day.The run is sponsored by the Merced Running Club and part of the proceeds benefit the cross country team at Buhach Colony High School.     CELEBRATE EARTH DAY 2017! Join Docent Ben Goger who will lead the annual Earth Day hike on the Striped Rock Easement. Hike through beautiful oak woodland and enjoy the view of western Mariposa County.
    The end of the hike is steep and technical, so be sure to bring the proper footwear! Also make sure to bring water, snacks, and/or lunch.
