The Mariposa County Fire Safe Council was created in January 1998. It is a grassroots community effort to get the word out to Mariposa County residents on the dangers of wildfire in the wildland urban interface, and to teach people how to maintain defensible space around their homes. The MCFSC is a non-profit, non-governmental, non-regulatory community partnership of Mariposa County residents, land/property owners, businesses, organizations, and agencies working together to reduce the vulnerability to the threat of wildland fire. The Mariposa County Fire Safe Council understands that some Mariposa County residents are in dire need of assistance with creating and maintaining their required 100’ defensible space clearances. We currently offer assistance with the chipping of properly piled and cut woody debris within the defensible space to Mariposa residents.
We also offer assistance with brushing within the defensible space to Mariposa residents who are physically or financially unable to create or maintain 100’ clearance around their homes as mandated.
The Mariposa County Fire Safe Council can help assist qualified residents with the free chipping of tree limbs, shrubs, and other woody debris within their defensible space. If you pile your large hazardous debris along a route of ingress/egress as described below, the Fire Safe Council will chip your hazardous debris for free. So please call us to find out more information about our great services, or come right in. Our friendly staff is here to serve and help this great Community. We are open M-Thursdays 9:00am-4:00pm and closed on Fridays. Please leave a message and we will get back to you.
